The Council should just point out that this civil parish is not the same as Wookey ecclesiastical parish and for such matters please visit http://www.chwchurches.co.uk/ which contains information, including "what's on", about the Parish Churches of Coxley with Godney, Henton & Wookey.

The Council

Wookey Parish Council is responsible for local issues, including setting an annual precept (local rate) to cover the council’s operating costs and producing annual accounts for public scrutiny. The council evaluates local planning applications and works with the local police, district council officers, and neighbourhood watch groups on matters of crime, security, and traffic. The council's role also includes initiating projects for the maintenance and repair of parish facilities, as well as consulting with Mendip District Council on the maintenance, repair, and improvement of highways, drainage, footpaths, public transport, and street cleaning. Conservation matters (including trees and listed buildings) and environmental issues are also the responsibility of the council.

The Council holds scheduled monthly meetings and ad hoc meetings when required. They take place at either Wookey Church Hall or Henton Village Hall (also known as Henton Hut). Any member of the public is welcome to attend. Details of these meetings (agenda and minutes) are posted on notice boards located throughout the parish and also on this website.

Avian Influenza

Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) has been in the country for over a year and since 1 October 2022 there have been 90 confirmed cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 in England alone.  Which brings the total number to 222 cases of HPAI H5N1 in England since the H5N1 outbreak started on 27 October 2021.  As you may know this strain of the AI is what they call zoonotic in that Humans can catch it, although very treatable people have died from it. 13 of the AI outbreaks have been in Devon/Somerset and this effects our economic trade as well.
